WHY I STARTED THIS BLOG

After mulling it over for a few years, I’ve decided to start writing a blog.  I have some specific reasons for doing this, and certain goals in mind.  The two main reasons are: 1) to have a place where I can unload & record all of my health updates, thoughts, feelings, questions and research, and 2) to have a place where my close friends and family can go for updates on the details, like test results, and not feel overwhelmed with trying to keep track of everything on their own, but still able to be involved in what’s happening with me on a very intimate level. I think this process will be cathartic for me, both presently as I go through it, and later, when I look back on the trials & triumphs and how I got through it all!  And of course, the most meaningful part of this would come from being able to help someone else with the knowledge & experience I am acquiring by going through these challenges first hand.

WABI SABI & KINTSUGI

Wabi-Sabi is a world view centered on the acceptance of transience & imperfection.  It is to “appreciate beauty that is imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete in nature.”  Wabi-Sabi requires you to see things differently; to see imperfect & asymmetrical things as even more unique for their flaws.  This principle applies not only to things, but also to ourselves.

Kintsugi is the Japanese art of putting broken pottery pieces back together with gold.  It’s built on the idea that “in embracing flaws & imperfections, you can create an even stronger, more beautiful piece of art.”
